Ame group victoria office

victoria, BC

In January 2011, the AME Group’s Victoria office moved into its current location at 721 Johnson Street, taking over an existing office space that had been vacant for several years and required substantial renovation. The renovations provided AME with a perfect opportunity to showcase the same sustainable and innovative energy-saving design features that our firm advocates in our professional work. Renovations were integrated with LEED Canada for Commercial Interiors and achieved LEED Silver certification. Mechanical design included dual flush toilets, low-flow shower heads and low-flow lavatories. Efficient faucets reduce the consumption of potable water. We estimate a 45% reduction in our potable water use - which equates to over 50,000 litres of drinkable water per year.

The building's heating and cooling is provided by a packaged rooftop heat pump via overhead fabric ductwork. Ventilation air is supplied via a heat recovery ventilator (HRV). The exhaust air from the washrooms and storage room passes through this HRV, where heat is recovered and used to pre-heat the outside air. This preheat system utilizes the waste heat and reduces the load on the heat pump unit. Occupancy sensors in the office space are used so that the HVAC system only operates when the space is occupied. As part of our company's ongoing sustainable focus, the energy consumption of the renovated space is trend logged to ensure the energy conservation measures are successful.
