Klahoose Multi-Purpose Centre

Squirrel Cove, BC

The Klahoose community chose Merrick Architecture to design its new 15,000 sq.ft. multi-purpose centre in Squirrel Cove, Cortes Island, BC. The facility's multi-use design incorporates everything from a health wing and fitness centre to a language lab, kitchen facilities, and a 300-person "Great Room". This project was entirely self-financed by the Klahoose Nation.

The AME Group designed condensing boilers to be set up with air source heat pumps. With sustainability a key focus, AME utilized natural ventilation to provide improved indoor air quality, which contributes to a healthy space for the Klahoose community and an improved level of functionality during the frequent and extended power outages that can occur on the island. In addition, water conserving plumbing was designed throughout the facility to provide both energy conservation and resource savings.
