ubc aquatic centre
The new LEED Gold targeted UBC Aquatic Centre replaces the existing facility located at McInnes Field in the Gage South and Environs Plan area. The 79,000 sq.ft. facility includes a 10-lane, 50-metre Olympic-size competition pool with a moveable bulkhead, a 25-metre recreation pool and a leisure pool, plus a range of amenities such as a 35-person hot tub that can also be used for rehabilitation, a sauna, change rooms, and multi-purpose rooms to meet the needs of students, faculty, and the community. The construction budget for this project is approximately $40 million.
Additional highlights of the new Aquatic Centre include; a 3,700 sq.ft. shallow family pool with warm water - an ideal family fun zone and for learning to swim, a lazy river, fountains, geysers and a configuration for water basketball and volleyball. The deck space is approximately 16,000 sq.ft. and the facility has seating capacity for 500 with the potential to add more seating for special events.
