Media Release

AME Group is proud to announce we have been selected as one of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers for 2024. We believe in our people and the culture we have created over the years at AME, and we are thrilled to have our efforts recognized. This award reflects our legacy of growth and employee ownership over the years; starting with just two employees to over 170 now, AME remains a people-first company.

The Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers award, organized by Mediacorp Canada Inc., is part of the Top 100 editorial competition that annually recognizes the best small and medium-sized employers (SMEs) across the country. Now in its 11th year, the award evaluates participating companies based on eight key criteria:

    1. Physical Workplace;
    2. Work Atmosphere & Social;
    3. Health, Financial & Family Benefits;
    4. Vacation & Time Off;
    5. Employee Communications;
    6. Performance Management;
    7. Training & Skills Development; and
    8. Community Involvement.

With over a million SMEs in Canada, the criteria is designed to identify employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional workplaces for their employees, highlighting those that go above and beyond in creating an engaging, supportive, and rewarding work environment – something we are proud to be recognized for. After reviewing a thousand applicants, the editors publish detailed “reasons for selection” for these criteria, providing transparency in the selection of winners and a catalogue of best practices for employers and jobseekers alike. “We have a very collaborative leadership group, and that energy funnels down to employees.”
Rob Walter

Managing Director and Founder

Since our inception in 2005, we have stood out in the engineering industry for our dedication to quality work, client satisfaction, and now highlighted in the SME award, our unique employee ownership model: over 50% of the company is employee-owned with succession plans for those over 55 years to sell their shares back, allowing new employees to buy in and build legacy.

“Everyone is on the same page and has the same vision for the company. I’m dedicated to making people happy, and that is a shared mentality within our teams.”
Stephen Timlin

We believe in investing in our employees as much as they invested in us. Each full-time employee receives $2,500 annually for training and development, we offer a 16-week parental leave pay top-up, and offer flexible work options, supporting our employees as they balance their professional and personal lives.

Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) are key to our culture. With a focus on action and understanding, we completed our first DEI survey last year and are working with not-for-profit groups to actively encouraging more young women to consider a career in mechanical engineering as part of Engineer’s Canada 30 by 30 Initiative.

Ensuring all voices are heard, we have five employee-resource groups (AME Teams) that provide ideas and recommendations to improve our workplace, our company, and the communities where we work, live and play.  Our current AME Teams include Technology, BIM, Sustainability, Social, and IDEA (inclusivity, diversity, equity, and action).

AME is more than just an engineering firm; it is a testament to what can be achieved when a company puts its people at the heart of its mission. As we look ahead, we remain dedicated to the shared success of our employees and clients. We invite our employees, clients and friends to join us in celebrating this achievement.  We look forward to continuing our commitment to creating a positive and inclusive culture at AME!  Read the full article here (page 18-19).
