AME Wins Award of Excellence–Canadian Consulting Engineers.
The AME Consulting Group and IMEC Mechanical have won an Award of Excellence at the 2011 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards Gala. They were honoured for their work on the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex in Coquitlam, BC. The Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards are presented jointly by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer Magazine.
The Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards are considered the highest form of recognition for the consulting engineering industry. “The awards showcase the important role of Canadian consulting engineering firms in every aspect of our lives,” says John Gamble, president of ACEC. “To win an Award of Excellence is considered a prestigious honour by the industry.”

Awards of Excellence were presented at the Ottawa Convention Centre in categories ranging from buildings, environment, transportation, water resources and project management. IMEC Mechanical and AME Consulting Group were honoured in the buildings category.

IMEC Mechanical and AME Consulting Group are highly specialized firms in mechanical engineering based in British Columbia. The firms worked together on the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex located in the City of Coquitlam, BC, the single largest capital facility project in the city. It was a $62 million, 13,200 m2 project that was completed ten months ahead of schedule and several million dollars under budget. This project included new construction, renovation and incorporated a new energy exchange system called Thermenex, which has successfully reduced energy expenditures at the facility. “We believe we have developed the most sustainable building heating and cooling system; there is no better way to showcase the merits of this system than by the recognition of our innovation through this prestigious award,” says Jeff Weston a principal of IMEC Mechanical Ltd and inventor of the Thermenex system.
The winners were selected by a panel of twelve jurors organized by Canadian Consulting Engineer Magazine. All the jurors have extensive backgrounds in engineering, construction and possess a knowledge of the industry.
