New Aquatic Centre Opens To The Public

Grand opening of UBC’s new $40 million Aquatic Centre as featured in Canadian Architect. A new aquatic centre has officially opened at the University of British Columbia. Designed by MacLennan Jaunkalns Miller Architects (MJMA) and Acton Ostry Architects—Architects in Association, the new Aquatic Centre replaces the indoor and outdoor pools at the centre of the UBC campus. It features a 10-lane, 50m competition pool; 8-lane, 25m pool with an accessible ramp and diving boards; a lazy river; hot tub; food and beverage kiosks, a sauna and steam room; and more.

UBC’s New Aquatic Centre Now Open

This modern and iconic dual-pool facility, designed by MacLennan Jaunkalns Miller Architects (MJMA) and Acton Ostry Architects, features a 10-lane 50m competition pool, an 8-lane 25m recreational lap pool, a shallow family pool with a lazy river loop and play features, as well as a hot tub, sauna and many additional amenities. Designed to target LEED Gold, UBC's new Aquatic Centre includes a leading-edge rainwater harvesting system and a 1.3-million-litre underground water cistern enabling rainwater harvested from the roof to be collected, filtered and stored to replenish evaporated pool water.


AME Wins First Place ASHRAE Technology Award

AME is extremely honoured to receive a First Place ASHRAE Region XI & BC Chapter 2016 Technology Award - Existing Educational Facilities for our work on the new Academic District Energy System (ADES) at the University of British Columbia's Point Grey campus in Vancouver. New UBC Aquatic Centre Featured in Award Magazine

New $40 million UBC Aquatic Centre is featured in Award Magazine. Key local stakeholders have long been asking for concrete, sustainable measures to improve community and recreational infrastructure. The Government of Canada is proud to invest in projects such as this one by the Municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Portage, which contribute to the strength and vitality of all regions of the country.


New Principals Announced at AME Group

AME is excited to announce that Greg Tarnopolsky, P.Eng., CEM, LEED AP and Zlatko Puljic, P.Eng., HBDP, CEM, LEED AP BD+C have both been promoted to Principal within the firm. Since joining AME's Victoria office in 2008, Greg's outstanding leadership skills and energy modeling expertise have been a major asset to the firm. Zlatko has been a key member of AME's Vancouver team for more than 4 years where he has successfully built up the company's portfolio of building energy retrofits. We are very appreciative of their commitment to AME and congratulate them in their new roles.


AME Takes Top Award for Two Post-Secondary Projects

The University of Victoria's LEED Gold targeted Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities (CARSA) building was awarded a first place standing in the New Educational category and the University of British Columbia's Academic District Energy System was awarded first place in the Existing Educational category. Innovation is a primary criterion on which submissions are judged and both projects will now go forward to the Society Level Technology Awards (January 2017).


Major Renovation at Taylor Manor Certified LEED Gold

AME is pleased to have been involved in the heritage renovation and expansion of this historic building which now provides much-needed supportive housing and services for up to 56 homeless individuals with mental illnesses or addictions.
