LEED Gold for UBC Aquatic Centre
AME is proud to have contributed to the extensive sustainability measures implemented at UBC’s new Aquatic Centre (opened in 2017) that helped earn this exceptional facility its LEED Gold Certification. Designed by Acton Ostry Architects in collaboration with MacLennan Jaunkalns Miller Architects, the iconic 8,000 m2 facility comprises a 10-lane, 50-metre Olympic-sized competition pool with spectator seating, a 25-metre recreational lap and diving pool, plus a leisure pool, hot tub, changerooms, and additional amenities. AME’s mechanical design incorporated a rainwater harvesting system, sophisticated filtration technology, and high-efficiency heat recovery systems supplemented by heat drawn from the UBC District Energy system (for which AME was awarded a First Place 2016 ASHRAE Technology Award).
