Richmond’s new Minoru Complex is an impressive multi-purpose civic recreational facility aimed at creating a hub of social, recreational and cultural activity to meet the needs of the City’s rapidly growing population of older adults. The new state-of-the-art facility, located in Minoru Park, replaces three existing City of Richmond facilities; the aging Minoru Aquatic Centre, Minoru Place Activity Centre, as well as wellness programs formerly housed at the Minoru Pavilion.
This iconic community complex comprises a 68,000 sq.ft. aquatic centre, a 33,000 sq.ft. seniors centre, a 7,300 sq.ft. fitness centre, event spaces, and an outdoor plaza.
The new aquatic centre features two 25-metre pools (one 8-lane tank and one 6-lane tank) with accessible features and varying depths and temperatures, plus a leisure pool with a lazy river, spray elements and play features, as well as hot pools, a cold plunge pool, steam room and saunas.
The seniors centre is designed on two floors and will include a café/lounge, activity rooms (art studios, woodworking shop and billiards/games room) and multi-purpose rooms.
Presently under construction, Richmond’s iconic Minoru Complex is scheduled to complete in 2017.
