Victoria Airside Operations Centre and Fire Hall
The Victoria Airport Authority required an innovative way to bring together Airport Operations Centre (AOC) staff with fire fighters to ensure seamless safety for its passengers and staff. The ability to respond to heavy traffic and emergency situations was crucial to the project.
The new 24,500 sq.ft. (2,252 m2) AOC and Fire Hall facility houses a four-apparatus vehicle bay, dorm rooms, training facilities, administration, fitness and meeting spaces. Several buildings dating back to World War II were replaced and necessary fire protection and critical emergency response equipment was designed and installed. Groundsource heat pumps were designed to boost efficiency and reduce the operational costs of heating and cooling systems. Heat recovery ventilation was designed to allow air-to-air exchange, employing counter-flow heat exchangers between the inbound and outbound air flow. This provides fresh air and improved climate control, which saves energy by reducing the heating (or cooling) requirements. In support of the geothermal field, AME included back up boilers and a series of heat rejection coils that allow for an effective cooling system.
