PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

The restoration of 1074 Cardero Street transformed a 120-year old house into a mixed-use building, comprising of five well-designed rental units and ground-floor commercial space, into a modern, energy-efficient property while preserving its century-old charm. This Vancouver landmark required meticulous planning to balance historic preservation with modern mechanical design.

As the mechanical engineers, we introduced innovative systems to enhance the building’s efficiency and environmental performance. A fully electrified HVAC Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system was implemented, providing precise heating and cooling for both residential and commercial spaces. Coupled with an advanced Energy Recovery Ventilator, the indoor air quality was significantly improved, creating a comfortable and sustainable environment year-round. To further align with sustainability goals, we incorporated a high-efficiency, fully electrified domestic hot water system, so the building can operate with zero emissions.

This project illustrates how forward-thinking design can breathe new life into heritage properties. The seamless integration of state-of-the-art systems not only reduced the building’s environmental impact but also preserved its timeless character, providing an inviting and sustainable space for residents and businesses. The restoration of 1074 Cardero Street stands as a model for blending innovative design with historic preservation, showcasing the possibilities of sustainable development within the bounds of a cherished architectural legacy.
