AME Group completed a comprehensive HVAC improvement and upgrade project for 1515 Blanshard, BC Ministry of Health. The study focused on low energy and carbon strategies, integrating long-term capital upgrades required to replace outdated and end-of-life HVAC equipment.
AME’s Building Performance Team developed a detailed energy model of the facility, allowing the client to assess the best option. The client chose one of our recommendations, and we developed a full design for the heating and cooling plants, following a Time Independent Energy Recovery (TIER) plant.
A TIER plant uses thermal energy storage to reduce peak electrical demand while maintaining high performance on the heating and cooling plant independently from the time of the year, using heat pump technology year-round.
This preferred pathway resulted in a GHG intensity below 1 kgCO2e/m² and a significant reduction in electrical demand.
The construction phase is set to begin soon, bringing this sustainable energy solution to life for improved building performance and efficiency.
