The project was delivered through a partnership between BC Transit, the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, and the City of Trail to establish a new downtown transit exchange supporting increased transit service levels. The work focused on creating a functional, accessible, and integrated public transit environment within an active urban setting.
The scope included design of a new bus exchange with three bus shelters, a bus layover area, sidewalk widening and reconstruction, street resurfacing, crosswalk markings, landscaping, bike rack installation, and construction of both public and transit-operator washroom facilities. The design also addressed circulation, accessibility, and public realm integration to support daily transit operations and pedestrian use.
AME’s scope included mechanical design for the public and operator washroom facilities, coordinated with site servicing and municipal infrastructure requirements. The design advanced to the 90 percent stage and aligned with SAFE Design assessment requirements, supporting a transit exchange layout developed with operational safety, durability, and long-term public use in mind.
