The Canadian Pacific Police Headquarters, a historic structure situated within the Ogden Yard in Calgary, AB, has undergone a remarkable transformation. Originally built in the early 1900s, this edifice served as a coal-fired central boiler plant, supplying steam to all buildings within the yard and powering a large steel auger that fed coal to departing steam engines.
Over time, however, the boiler plant became outdated and the auger was eventually decommissioned. Recognizing the potential for repurposing, Canadian Pacific (CP) decided to transform the building into the new headquarters for the Canadian Pacific Police.
The $6 million renovation included the decommissioning of the existing Power House systems, creation of a new single-storey office on the main floor for the CP Police and the relocation of an existing 60 PSI main gas line running through the Power House which now serves many of the buildings on the CP site.
The revamped building is now equipped with investigation rooms, holding rooms, a large IT hub, offices, meeting rooms, and a backup generator. It’s designed to withstand significant power outages or severe weather events and continue operations seamlessly. Despite these extensive renovations, care was taken to preserve the historic exterior, paying homage to its past while serving a modern purpose.
