AME provided Prime, Mechanical, and Commissioning services for the Chiller Plant Retrofit and Cooling Tower Replacement at the Vancouver Public Library Central Library. The project began with AME conducting an analysis of energy use and budget for various replacement options, leading to the design of a system that recovers waste heat using medium- and high-grade heat recovery chillers. This innovative system is expected to reduce onsite GHG emissions by 55% and save $54,000 annually in energy costs. Working closely with project stakeholders, AME also secured $2.38 million in incentive funding, covering nearly four times the incremental cost over a conventional chiller replacement.
As Prime Consultant, AME led the design, procurement, and construction phases, enabling library services to remain uninterrupted. The project required detailed planning to align with seasonal equipment downtimes and manage supply chain disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic. To mitigate construction risks, AME used 3D modeling of the two mechanical rooms using a point cloud scan.
AME also acted as the Commissioning Agent, streamlining the handover process and minimizing service interruptions to the library during construction near zero. Additionally, the project included enhanced warranty service, with AME continuing active testing and operational reviews throughout the warranty period to see all-season functionality of the chiller and heat recovery plant.
