PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

The new health facility for the Lil’wat First Nation in Mount Currie, BC, represents a major advancement in delivering culturally attuned healthcare and support services. It features medical professional offices, community coordinator offices, gathering spaces, and a community kitchen. This design fosters a comprehensive approach to care by integrating medical services with community support, enabling timely, personalized healthcare while promoting social interaction and community engagement.

The facility’s design shadows Passive House standards, balancing energy efficiency and a comfortable indoor environment with minimal energy use. High-performing glazing and airtight construction contribute to a stable, pleasant atmosphere essential for recovery and mental well-being. Additionally, AME’s use of heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) and variable refrigerant flow (VRF)systems combines for a clean, emission-free climate control system, supporting a healthy environment for both patients and staff.

The Health Wing of the facility meets CSA Z317.2requirements, emphasizing stringent infection control and safety protocols. This alignment with healthcare facility standards creates a hygienic and secure environment, crucial for effective recovery and mental health support. Overall, the facility’s design effectively addresses accessibility, comfort, and safety, making it a vital resource for the Lil’wat First Nation and supporting the community’s long-term health and well-being.
