PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

Nats’oojeh Hospital and Health Centre is a two-storey replacement facility for the former Stuart Lake Hospital, serving Fort St. James and surrounding First Nations communities with integrated primary, acute, and long-term care. The hospital includes nine acute care beds, 18 long-term care beds, a fully equipped emergency department with trauma and ambulance bays, a primary care clinic, diagnostic imaging, a laboratory, and support spaces for community-based health services.

The facility serves the Takla Lake First Nation, Tl’azt’en Nation, Binche Whut’en First Nation, Nak’azdli Whut’en, and Yekooche First Nation. Cultural collaboration and engagement with these communities informed public areas, clinical flows, and family support spaces.

AME provided mechanical consulting services for this progressive design-build project, including HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, and life safety systems. Work included integration with IMIT infrastructure, with a focus on reliability, maintainability, and performance in a remote setting. BIM modelling supported coordination of complex systems within a compact footprint.

The project targeted LEED v4 BD+C Health Care Gold, with mechanical systems and controls configured to support long-term energy performance and operational resilience in a modern, culturally responsive healthcare environment.
