The North Vancouver Civic Centre Revitalization project was a significant undertaking by the City of North Vancouver, involving an $11.5 million major renovation and expansion of the existing 1970s heritage City Hall building. The project also included the repurposing of a former City library building and enhancement of the Civic Plaza.
This LEED Silver-certified building is known for its key mechanical features, such as passive ventilation, thermal modeling for comfort conditions, in-slab heating and cooling, and heat recovery ventilation. The building utilizes natural cross ventilation, with air drawn through the area and exhausted out the atrium high clerestory window vents.
The revitalized Civic Centre uses the Lonsdale District Energy System to deliver high-efficiency, cost-effective sustainable energy, reducing community-wide greenhouse gas emissions. This investment in sustainability and public facilities underscores the city’s commitment to creating a vibrant, eco-friendly community.
The completed Civic Centre renovation project has delivered a more sustainable City Hall, improved public access, and
new community space. The new City Hall now benefits from sustainability enhancements, better public access, and a seismic upgrade.
