The Quw’utsun Secondary School replacement is a design-build, new construction project located in Duncan. Constant communication with all trade partners was crucial to agree on the design path – from initial schematic concepts to equipment selections – avoiding most potential conflicts.
The owner’s Statement of Requirements formed the basis of design; however, it was written before the building took shape, so during design there were naturally opportunities for practical changes as well as challenges from unclear interpretation or owner’s intent. In all cases AME maintained continuous, open communication with design and trade partners to verify the best options and full implications before presenting design options as requests to the owner.
The school is a complex building with MEP services sharing the structural space. Coordination during design was enhanced by 3D modelling, a thorough clash detection process, and whole-team review of key areas. Coordination has continued into construction with a high level of involvement by AME including review of related elements like structural shop drawings and screening details.
