PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

The UBC MacLeod Building Renewal project involved comprehensive renewal of the Electrical and Computer Engineering building to update aging infrastructure and support contemporary academic use. Originally constructed in the 1960s, the building required significant upgrades to improve seismic performance and environmental sustainability while working within the constraints of its existing structure.

AME’s scope included a deep retrofit of all existing mechanical systems to improve performance and energy efficiency. Mechanical design incorporated radiant ceiling heating and cooling systems, carefully coordinated to fit within the building’s limited ceiling depths while maintaining thermal comfort and system functionality.

The project also included design of a centralized dust collection system for the woodworking shop to support safe and efficient operation. Mechanical systems were integrated to align with the renewed building program and sustainability objectives, contributing to the project’s achievement of LEED Gold certification.

The renewal delivered modernized mechanical infrastructure that supported long-term performance, improved efficiency, and continued use of a significant academic facility.
