Following on from the Project Development Report (PDR), AME worked with hcma on this replacement project as part of the Major Capital Project for seismic upgrades in BC schools. The new 36,500 sq.ft., two-story wək̓ʷan̓əs tə syaqʷəm Elementary School was built on a new footprint, allowing the existing school to remain operational during construction.
Designed for 340 students, the school features a mass timber structure with exposed cross-laminated timber elements, creating a durable and welcoming environment. A central double-height atrium connects the building’s four pod-like learning quadrants, fostering collaboration and interaction.
AME’s mechanical design supported the project’s sustainability goals, contributing to its LEED Gold certification. Prefabrication and phased construction minimized disruptions and expedited delivery, delivering a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient learning space for generations to come.
The result is a sustainable, welcoming, and innovative community learning space that reflects modern educational standards and architectural excellence.
